New! 2025 Encaustic workshops
I am thrilled to be teaching encaustics at 3!! exciting events this summer and fall.
Metchosin International Summer school of the arts - July 5&6
The Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts has been providing high calibre specialized workshops for artists, teachers and serious adult students since 1984. MISSA has a reputation for hosting local, national and international instructors who engage with students in an intense multi-disciplinary environment. MISSA welcomes students from around the world to participate in an artistic immersion for two weeks every summer. Let the magic begin.
MISSA MAGIC
Each year, artists from near and far, come together to share in a spirited creative exchange at MISSA’s Summer Arts Program. The Summer Arts Program takes place on the beautiful campus of Brentwood College School in Mill Bay, on Southern Vancouver Island, close to Victoria, B.C. This rugged natural environment with 360 degree views of the Saanich Inlet is the perfect backdrop for artistic exploration and expression. It’s easy to see why many participants return year after year to be part of this ‘MISSA Magic’.
About my workshop: Runs July 5 &6th
This is a 2-day workshop. All classes run 9 – 4 pm each day with lunch included from 12 – 1 pm.
Dimensional EncausticsThis workshop will deep-dive into the exciting world of wax; wether it’s sculpting a freeform vessel or adding ultra dimension to a painting, the encaustic medium will bring diversity and versatility. Participants will learn to incorporate materials such as twine, paper, leaves, and fabric, with encaustic to create sculptural and extreme dimensional wall art or vessels. From fine details to large forms, crazy texture to glass-like surfaces, encaustic brings something for everyone – the possibilities are endless and only limited by your imagination.
It is recommended participants have prior encaustic experience.
This price includes: tuition, daily lunch, material fees (if required), any applicable taxes and is listed in Canadian Dollars.

The workshop will begin with a demonstration on how to create encaustic medium and transform it into coloured encaustic paint. Participants will use this medium in their personalised projects. Attendees are encouraged to bring natural objects that resonate with them, as these will serve as inspiration during guided image development activities. These activities will culminate in conceptual sketches or ideas for their encaustic sculptures.
Students will explore a range of sculptural techniques using wax through a series of mini-projects, tailored to their individual creative goals. Experimenting with various materials and processes will help participants refine their final sculptures. Substrates for the wax medium will include options such as paper, fabric, wood, and leaves, allowing for diverse artistic expressions. The workshop will conclude with participants creating nature-inspired encaustic sculptures, which may be freestanding or wall-mounted. These pieces will be finished with their uniquely pigmented medium. By the end of the workshop, participants will have learned how to make encaustic medium and paint, advanced sculptural techniques, and how to design and create a sculptural piece inspired by a natural artifact. |
